Empowering Ferocious Scholars
Our mission is to provide a comprehensive, equitable system where all stakeholders work collaboratively to hold the success of each and every learner as the highest priority. We are committed to a climate that embraces student values, beliefs, backgrounds, and identity in a safe, welcoming and joyful environment. Through relentless urgency, we empower students with the academic and non-academic supports they deserve to reach their potential. Our scholars define their own success realizing they are the key to a future of meaningful options.
- We must challenge the status quo.
- We can not wait until it is convenient for adults.
- We are only limited by our creativity.
- Our students deserve more and we are their advocates.
- If it is legal and ethical, we can and will do whatever is needed.
- Distractions prevent progress.
- No one is alone in this work, #ohana
- We must laugh together.
- EVERY decision must be weighed against the benefit and cost for our students.
- We’ve got this!
Goal areas in the Strategic Plan are:
- Rigorous Learning
- Tiger Pride
- Community Partnership
Investing in our students is a priority at Muskegon Heights!
We are diligent in providing our classrooms with the best materials to meet the needs of the students.
We use ReadyGen (K-6th grade) and MyPerspectives as our Core English Language Arts curriculum. These programs have a fantastic rating with EdReport, check them out here: ReadyGen report MyPerspectives Report. These reports confirm these programs are of the highest quality, aligned with Michigan State Standards, provide for rigorous learning and support teachers to become effective experts.
For Mathematics instuction we use the EngageNY/Eureka Math Program. The program is rigorous, teachs students to solve real world problems and communicate their thinking. For a very thorough review of the program read this report for K-8 and this report for 9-12.
Our students also embark on a rigorous Science curriculum called Inspire Science, which is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards, and follows the research-based 5E Instructional Model for Science: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate.
To see our young Scientists engaged in using the Inspire Science curriculum, please watch our Muskegon Heights Tigers are Inspired by Science video!
