Job Title:              Head Varsity Football Coach

Reports To:          Athletic Director 

Job Summary:    The Head Football Coach is responsible for various aspects of the Football Program, such as recruiting within the school, scheduling opponents ( in conjunction with the Athletic Director ), training and coaching of student athletes. The Head Football Coach is required to abide by the MHSAA rules and regulations as well as the rules and regulations set by Muskegon Heights Academy athletics administration.

Primary Purpose: To utilize the sport of football to teach the student athletes the importance of  commitment, discipline, work ethic, integrity and respect. These character pillars along with high academic performance will empower our students to become successful in all facets of life. 

Education:  

High School Diploma, bachelor’s degree (preferred) 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 Years of experience coaching football at the high school level (head coach experience preferred).
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must be a person of high integrity and character.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of the sport, rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and good sportsmanship.
  • Coordinate the development and promotion of the football program.    
  • Work with members of the school staff to plan and put into place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
  • Develop a regular practice schedule for the building of both team and individual player development.
  • Determine game strategies based on the team capabilities.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property.
  • Always encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment and facilities, including protecting students from bullying.
  • Hold a preseason meeting with all student athletes and parents.
  • Assist student athletes with college recruiting.
  • Participate in special events and activities to include senior night, banquets, award nights and pep assembles.
  • Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.  
  • Supervise assistant coaches.
  • Attend clinics and other developmental training.
  • Be an ambassador of the district and promote the sport by communicating with news media, booster clubs, services clubs, and other organizations.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and or other appropriate administrators (Principal, Superintendent ect.).
