Teacher and Support Staff COVID-19 (TSSC19) Grant Programs
The Michigan Department of Treasury has authorized a grant program that could provide qualified teachers (this includes SEED teachers) and support staff with a stipend to honor additional hours worked or working in hazardous conditions during the pandemic. Unfortunately all administrators, substitutes, and any staff that did not work in the district during the 2019-20 school year, do not qualify for this opportunity. All others, please read further:

The Teacher COVID-19 Grant program was created by Public Act 166 of 2020 to recognize the additional time classroom teachers in a district or nonprofit nonpublic school spent outside of normal working hours and additional costs classroom teachers have incurred or experienced to provide a continuity of learning during the period of school closure in 2019-2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program was funded under Article 5, Section 949p for grants to eligible K-12 classroom teachers.

The School Support COVID-19 Grant program was created by Public Act 166 of 2020 for grants to eligible K-12 school support staff to recognize the additional time spent outside of normal working hours, hazardous conditions, and additional costs school support staff have incurred or experienced to provide services to students during the period of school closure in 2019-2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please note if you work for a nonprofit nonpublic school you are not eligible for this grant. The program was funded under Article 5, Section 949q for grants to eligible K-12 school support staff.

We have attempted to contact eligible grant recipients, if you believe you are eligible please complete the following process:

Step 2:   Process Application:

Complete Form 5730, Teacher and Support Staff Grants Certification and return it, be certain to sign, date and return by 12 pm December 4 to dkoster@mhtigers.org. We will then send these documents on to the Treasury Department for their approval. Please note: Our hope is that ALL of the staff forms we submit will receive the stipend, however  the decision to grant the stipends is the Treasury Department's.

Step 3:  Timeline:

October 23 - November 9: The district will pull the draft eligibility list from the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI) Registration of Educational Personnel (REP) report and send Form 5734 to all eligible employees.  This communication shall satisfy this requirement.

December 4: Eligible Grant recipients must complete Form 5734 (Google form and paper copy) the Teacher and Support Staff COVID-19 Grants Certification (Step 2).

December 16:  Deadline for the district to upload and electronically submit the eligibility lists to the Michigan Department of Treasury.

February 25:  Checks are estimated to be mailed on or about February 25, 2021 to the address of residency provided on the eligibility lists (Step 2).  Checks will come directly from the Department of Treasury.

Checks will be sent out February 25, 2021 to your home from the Treasury Department.

Please contact Dr. Arnetta Thompson at athompson@mhtiger.org with questions or a written appeal regarding your eligibility.
