High School Science Teacher

Position: 9-12 grade Teacher
Location: Muskegon Heights Academy
Reports to: Building Principal
Position Available: 2025/2026 Academic Year
Requirements:
Must possess a valid Michigan elementary teaching certificate and meet state requirements
Recent teaching experience at or near level and subject being applied for is desirable
Salary/Benefits:
Commensurate with credentials and level of experience and in accordance with MHPSA salary schedule. Full-time with a benefit package.
The science teacher position provides science instruction for high school students while maintaining a positive, well-managed classroom environment. This role includes planning collaboratively, delivering engaging lessons using technology, assessing student progress, and supporting varied learning needs. The teacher works cooperatively with students, families, and staff and follows all district policies and procedures to ensure continuity of instruction for students.
Qualifications:
• State of Michigan Teaching Certificate - Science DX or DI endorsement (preferred)
• Minimum of 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university (required)
• Eligibility to obtain a Daily Substitute Permit from the Michigan Department of Education (required)
Essential Duties:
• Ability to work in a team planning structure
• Ability to be enthusiastic, flexible, and work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
• Ability to motivate and inspire students
• Ability to transform instruction through the creative use of technology
• Knowledge of instructional practices for varied learning styles and individual student needs
• Excellent organization and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills)
• Experience teaching middle school students
• Successful classroom management strategies and skills
• Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures
• Experience in utilizing a variety of assessments to inform teaching
• Ability to develop and implement positive behavior support plans
• Strong background in using assessment and data to inform instruction and document student progress
• Willingness and ability to maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
• Ability to complete other duties as assigned
