 Summer School Instructors Internal/External Employment Opportunity

Positions:  Summer School Instructors (Grades K-12)

Location:  Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System 

Temporary positions, grant-funded by one-time funds. *Actual needs will be based on student enrollment.

Qualifications:

Teaching certificate in the State of Michigan valid to teach at the elementary level and meet criteria for “highly qualified” required.

Essential Requirements:

  • Display a strong understanding of the philosophy and models for providing Tier 1 & 2 academic and behavioral support for students.

  • Highly skilled in meeting the needs of at-risk students who are up to two years behind both academically and behaviorally.

  • Willingness to partner with mental health professionals with Tier 3 services for students. 

  • Participate in focused time using MyPath, UFLI, EdgeEX.

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of child growth and development and how it relates to learning.

  • Demonstrate competency in the areas of instructional strategies and classroom management.

  • Display a complete understanding of the philosophy and models for providing intervention instruction to at-risk students.

  • Be able to utilize and analyze data to identify students in need of intervention services, their specific abilities, deficiencies, interests and/or talents to guide the development of an appropriate intervention plan for each individual student.

  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with parents, students, and teachers to actively engage them in the educational process.

  • Monitor the effectiveness and pacing of instruction relative to class and individual student proficiency and progress.

  • Participate in off grounds activities as needed.

  • Ability to have fun while educating.

Session Dates:   4 weeks

  1. June 22-July 23, Monday thru Thursday (No School week of June 29 - July 3) 

  2. If applying for only two weeks of the session, must apply with a teacher who will fulfill the opposite two weeks.

     Hours:  Monday-Friday  9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
           Teachers arrive by 8:00 a.m.
            In addition, 45 minutes of planning time before each day of instruction.

May be assigned 30 minute lunch coverage periodically.

Deadline for Applying:  Friday, May 8, 2026

Pay Rate:  $35.00/hour/20 hours a week/5 weeks

Dates: June 22, 2026 - July 23, 2026 (Exclude the week of June 29th-July 3rd)

Orientation: Mandatory Orientation on June 15, 2026
