Position Summary:

The Facilities Director is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and attractive environment for students, staff, visitors, and the public. This position oversees the arrangement and setup of equipment and furniture for meetings, classroom activities, and special events, ensuring facilities are functional and responsive to the needs of the school community.

The Facilities Director supervises custodial and maintenance operations, establishes preventative maintenance programs, and ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards. This role is responsible for developing and managing vendor relationships, including the preparation, issuance, and evaluation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), as well as negotiating, awarding, and monitoring service contracts to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with Academy policies.

Additionally, the Facilities Director implements procedures to minimize property damage, prevent loss, and reduce liability exposure to the Academy. The position oversees facility use, monitors building systems, and ensures timely response to maintenance needs, while maintaining accurate records and supporting long-term facility planning.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum of 2-4  years of professional experience in managerial or industrial cleaning, including supervision of staff, scheduling, and facility maintenance operations. 

  • Required to perform multiple non-technical tasks

  • Self-motivated and positive attitude

  • Ability to perform basic math, read and follow instructions and understand multi-step written and oral instructions

  • Good organizational skills

  • Knowledge of custodial supplies and cleaning methods and techniques

  • Ability to operate various types of equipment (vacuums, floor buffers, etc.)

  • Ability to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods

  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and written with staff, students, visitors and the public

  • Problem solving 

Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee daily custodial, maintenance, and grounds operations across all facilities

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate custodial and maintenance staff

  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for buildings and equipment

  • Coordinate setup and arrangement of furniture and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, and special events

  • Monitor building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) to ensure efficient and safe operation

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards

  • Develop, issue, and evaluate Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for contracted services

  • Negotiate, award, and manage vendor contracts to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance

  • Oversee contractor performance and ensure work is completed according to specifications

  • Manage inventory, purchasing, and distribution of supplies and equipment

  • Prepare and manage facilities budgets and track expenditures

  • Implement procedures to minimize property damage, loss, and liability exposure

  • Respond to facility emergencies and coordinate appropriate corrective actions

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and compliance documentation

  • Support long-term facility planning, improvements, and capital projects

  • Coordinate facility use and scheduling for internal and external events

  • Attend all professional development/in-service training (e.g., blood borne pathogens, first aid, cleaning solvents, floor care, etc.)

  • Clean assigned areas to maintain a sanitary, safe and attractive environment

  • Daily attendance and punctuality are required to meet the goals of the work unit

  • Responsible to immediate safety and/or operational concerns to resolve immediate safety issues and maintain a functioning physical and educational environment

  • Inspect Academy facilities to ensure suitability for safe operations; maintain in an attractive and clean condition and identify any repairs that may be necessary due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.

  • Perform work at heights of up to 12 feet using ladders and/or scaffolding for the purpose of cleaning, changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, etc.

  • Prepare Academy facilities for daily operations to ensure Academy facilities are operational and safe

  • Secure Academy facilities (e.g., locked doors) and ground to minimize property damage, equipment loss and any potential liability to the Academy

  • Service job-related machinery/equipment (e.g., adjusting, cleaning, and oiling vacuums, cleaners, scrubbers, etc.) to maintain equipment in good working condition. Also, change burses, pad, rollers, etc. on equipment as needed

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Other Requirements:

  • Satisfactory criminal background checks

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

This position requires extensive standing and walking throughout the work shift. Must have the ability to stoop, crouch, kneel and bend. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must have the ability to use senses: sight, hearing, smell and touch. 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under some hazardous conditions.
