Art Teacher

Job Description

The Art Teacher, under the supervision of the Principal, shall be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using techniques and skills of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts preferred.
  • Teacher certification/license preferred.
  • Prior work experience as an Art Teacher.
  • External candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Planning lessons on art and art history in accordance with students learning objectives.
  2. Preparing the classroom by gathering and setting up equipment.
  3. Developing students drawing, coloring, and painting techniques.
  4. Providing instruction on the use of media such as graphite and charcoal pencils, as well as oil, acrylic, and watercolor paint.
  5. Teaching students about art history.
  6. Assigning and grading projects and examinations.
  7. Recording and reporting on students’ progress.
  8. Ensuring that the classroom is clean after each lesson.
  9. Monitoring inventory and sourcing art supplies, as needed.
  10. Attending faculty and parent teacher meetings.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing, and climbing. Move small stacks of textbooks, art equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
