Head Cross Country Coach - High School

Position Summary

The Head Cross Country Coach is responsible for establishing and leading a competitive high school cross country program

while fostering student growth, academic success, leadership, commitment, and sportsmanship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop annual training plans, practice schedules, and meet preparation plans.

• Teach proper running mechanics, conditioning, pacing, race strategy, recovery, and injury prevention.

• Recruit, retain, and develop student-athletes within the cross country program.

• Coordinate meet entries, transportation needs, and communication with the Athletic Director.

• Monitor academic eligibility, attendance, and student-athlete conduct.

• Maintain proper supervision during practices, meets, travel, and team activities.

• Maintain equipment, uniforms, and program inventory.

• Build positive relationships with parents, staff, and the community.

• Develop assistant coaches and volunteers when applicable.

• Promote a positive culture that reflects Muskegon Heights Academy values.

Qualifications

• Cross country, track, distance running, or related coaching experience preferred.

• Knowledge of conditioning, race preparation, and injury prevention.

• Ability to motivate student-athletes of varying experience levels.

• CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.

• Completion of all required MHSAA and district coaching requirements.

• Successful completion of required background checks.
